SLAT Area of Specialization: Cognitive Dimensions of L2 Learning

Dr. Gomez studies how infants, children and adults learn language; how their learning is improved by sleep; how they connect learning experiences across time and how the developing brain supports language acquisition.  She also studies the memory processes that enable learners to update their memories with new information.  Many of these processes are used throughout the lifespan so she can conduct studies with learners of different ages to better understand how memory processes are supported by the brain and how they change with development.

Research Interests:

  • Studying infant and child language acquisition
  • Investigating how sleep impacts learning and memory in infants and young children
  • Understanding developmental cognitive neuroscience
